Blog Assignment #3

In the video, “What is Peer Editing” and going over the slideshow, “Peer Edit With Perfection Tutorial”, it explains how to make useful feedback to your peers. Peer editing means “working with someone your own age to help improve, revise, and edit his or her writing. There are three main steps in peer editing. The first step is compliments which means to tell the writer what you think they did well on. The second step is suggestions which means to give the author specific idea on how to make their writing better. The last step is to make corrections. Making corrections means checking for grammar, spelling and sentence structure. The most important rule is to make sure you stay positive throughout peer editing.

The second video is called “Writing Peer Review Top 10 Mistakes”. I really enjoyed watching this video; it was more humorous. This video explains and gives many different examples of what not to do when peer reviewing. It is easy to make theses mistakes and need to be aware of them. You do not want to be negative, careless, or hateful. Peer reviewing is to be effective and helpful to you if it is giving in the right way.

Blog Assignment #2

1. In this scenario, Professor Dancealot is teaching the students different types of dances. The way he is teaching is by telling the students the steps of the dances and demonstrates how to do it. One student tries to get up and follow along but the professor tells him to sit down. The students are taking notes on what he is saying. When the exam comes along, the professor sets up a video camera and tells the students to find a partner and start demonstrating the different dances. All of the students were lost and did not know where to start. This is a great example of how not to teach. I do not agree with this way of teaching. You can not expect the students to learn anything from just telling them the information and having them recall it back to you. Having the students learn by actually doing the dance is the best method for them to learn.

2. Teaching in the 21st Century is a very instructional video. Roberts is trying to send a message that there are many different ways in teaching with technology and that teachers are not the only source in learning. Technology is growing rapidly and is changing the way we learn. It is giving the students many helpful opportunities to learn. Teachers can now post their lectures online for the students to see. It allows the students to be more independent. I believe I will use the technology in my classroom when I become a teacher. I really liked Roberts message and agree with him that there are many different ways to learn than just a book.

3. The Youtube video, Networked Student demonstrates a new way to learn. They are explaining why a student is taking an online class with no book but has all the resources. Throughout the video, I was wondering why the student even needs a teacher. The teacher is actually a really big help. The teacher is for to give the student guidance and help with any questions or problems he had. After watching this video, it made me realize that EDM310 is very similar to this. It gives us a way to work independently but still have some guidance.

4. In this video, Harness Your Students Digital Smarts I believe the thesis is that there are many different ways to teach your students and not everyone learns the same way. Technology is growing everyday. There are many ways to teach using technology. Group projects and being able to connect with other people from around the world keeps learning fun and interesting. I agree with her thoughts about working with technology. Teaching with technology gives you unlimited opportunities for different methods of teaching.

5. Flipping the classroom was very new to me; I have never head of it before. I believe that this method would be very good for most students. It would allow the students to be prepared and have questions for the lesson the next day. It will also be very useful for the students who are struggling with the lesson. I would definitely use this approach as a teacher. I believe it would be very useful for the students and the teacher.

Blog assignment #1

There are many things I have heard about EDM 310, both positive and negative. I have mostly heard that you have to be able to have time management and that you have to be able to spend about nine hours or more each week with the assignments. Hearing that mad me worried about this course. But I have also heard that this class teaches you a lot. Many people have told me that this class is worth it and that you get so much out of it. I am excited to see what this class will teach me.

My fear about this class would have to be that everything is online. I have never really done that well in online classes. I am not really good at dealing with technology. I seem to always have the most trouble with it. Another fear is having to give presentations and being in front of people. I know that we will be in groups so that helps a lot and I know that if I to be a teacher I will have to get over that fear.

EDM 310 is very different than any other courses that I have taken. I have taken a few online classes and so far in the class is going to be the most difficult. Most online classes, mainly you just have to answer a discussion question and take a quiz. This class you have to do many blogs and group work.

The most difficult challenge in this class will have to be the technology. Like I said earlier, I have never been that good with it. I know technology is expanding and is getting even more difficult so I know this class will be good for me.

For me to address this difficult challenge with technology, I believe the most important thing for me to do is to me calm and not get frustrated. When I can not figure something out with technology I usually get all stressed out and want to quit. I am just going to have to keep trying and ask for help if I need it. That is another thing I am not very good at.

Practice Post

My name is Briley Lovett and I am from Decatur which is about five hours north from here. I grew up and have lived there my whole life. I am currently a junior at South Alabama. I chose to go to South because it was the farthest away from home that was still in Alabama and it was also by the beach. I have the most wonderful parents and an older brother, named Braxton. My family and I are really close and we always go on family trips, especially on cruises.

I just recently picked my major to elementary education. For the longest, I did not know what I wanted to be but I knew I wanted to work with children. My mother just recently got a job as a PE teacher and I would always come visit her at her school. While watching her handle the kids just brought a smile to my face and I knew right then that I wanted to be a teacher.

Running is something that I am very passionate about. My mother got my me into running a couple years ago and it has made us a lot closer. Running is my happy place and I absolutely love it.
