Blog Assignment #2

1. In this scenario, Professor Dancealot is teaching the students different types of dances. The way he is teaching is by telling the students the steps of the dances and demonstrates how to do it. One student tries to get up and follow along but the professor tells him to sit down. The students are taking notes on what he is saying. When the exam comes along, the professor sets up a video camera and tells the students to find a partner and start demonstrating the different dances. All of the students were lost and did not know where to start. This is a great example of how not to teach. I do not agree with this way of teaching. You can not expect the students to learn anything from just telling them the information and having them recall it back to you. Having the students learn by actually doing the dance is the best method for them to learn.

2. Teaching in the 21st Century is a very instructional video. Roberts is trying to send a message that there are many different ways in teaching with technology and that teachers are not the only source in learning. Technology is growing rapidly and is changing the way we learn. It is giving the students many helpful opportunities to learn. Teachers can now post their lectures online for the students to see. It allows the students to be more independent. I believe I will use the technology in my classroom when I become a teacher. I really liked Roberts message and agree with him that there are many different ways to learn than just a book.

3. The Youtube video, Networked Student demonstrates a new way to learn. They are explaining why a student is taking an online class with no book but has all the resources. Throughout the video, I was wondering why the student even needs a teacher. The teacher is actually a really big help. The teacher is for to give the student guidance and help with any questions or problems he had. After watching this video, it made me realize that EDM310 is very similar to this. It gives us a way to work independently but still have some guidance.

4. In this video, Harness Your Students Digital Smarts I believe the thesis is that there are many different ways to teach your students and not everyone learns the same way. Technology is growing everyday. There are many ways to teach using technology. Group projects and being able to connect with other people from around the world keeps learning fun and interesting. I agree with her thoughts about working with technology. Teaching with technology gives you unlimited opportunities for different methods of teaching.

5. Flipping the classroom was very new to me; I have never head of it before. I believe that this method would be very good for most students. It would allow the students to be prepared and have questions for the lesson the next day. It will also be very useful for the students who are struggling with the lesson. I would definitely use this approach as a teacher. I believe it would be very useful for the students and the teacher.
